Yashica Mat Tests : These photos are from the third roll shot in the Yashica Mat EM. Prior to taking these the lenses, mirror, ground glass, and Fresnel screen were all cleaned. The second roll which was intended to be the test roll displayed significant focus problems. I discovered that the mirror was not situated correctly which caused incorrect focus through the viewing lens, as a result the taking lens saw a different image.

Note that the Yashinon lens supports a continuous aperture system so I did my best to set to the markers. The Copal-MXV shutter has fixed timing stops. The camera was mounted on a tripod, though there may be minor shifts in the images due to changing aperture, shutter, setting self timer, pressing shutter release, and scanning. Negatives were scanned at 4800dpi 16bit and then resized for upload to 2400dpi 8bit. The Epson Scan application was used with no adjustments selected. No post scan adjustments or sharpening were applied at any point and the sharpen options were disabled on this gallery before upload.

The intent of these photos is to determine if diffraction effects were visible, depth of field, and consistency of exposure. For both subjects apertures f/22 to f/4 were shot (full stop), except for the second subject where f/8 was accidentally skipped.

At ~3.5' I can't determine any diffraction in the images at f/22 and as expected for close subjects it will give the deepest depth of field. For a subject at ~10' I again can't see any diffraction. Diffraction may become evident with a different film / developer combination that provides greater acutance. While it is not easily determined from these photos how accurate the shutter timing is, it appears that the durations are fairly consistent in relation to each other. The exception being 1sec which seems to be slightly short.
