Taken while on a trip to Japan in a town called Hamakita, at the Hamakita Hiryuu Matsuri, a festival in honor of Ryujin, god of the Tenryuu River. There was kite flying, dancing, music, food, and crafts.

This photo is one of my favorites from the trip. I love the expression on the boy's face as he is flying his kite and the way his father (or grandfather) is positioned.

Many more photos from the trip can be seen in this gallery. Only a portion of the pictures have been uploaded yet - there are many more to come in the near future.

Another day of record high temperatures combined with an evening cold front has created more dramatic clouds. They threaten rain, but nothing has fallen either days that I have photographed the clouds.

This shot is false colored after capturing with the polarizer in place.

Irene started working on a new illustration this evening of a girl floating in the sky over a city with her cheeks puffed up. She does a multistep process - first she does a sketch in pencil and then she overlays a new piece of paper to do an inking using her light table (seen here.) From here the process diverges to either scanning in to the computer to be colored in Painter or done by hand with markers, pencils, or watercolor.

You can see a small portion of Irene's artwork on her website www.ireneros.com/Art/. She said she will post a comment here sometime tomorrow linking to the subject piece when it's finished.
Oliver Chong > 2008.09.28 - Day ? :

It rained almost nonstop from Friday morning through to Sunday night. I've been watching a patch of trees along my path to work change colors, but with the all the rain it delayed my plans. Luckily Sunday afternoon offered a one hour respite from the rain so I rushed down the road to take a few shots.

This isn't my favorite shot of the day, but it does show an isolated glimpse of the beauty that New England offers in the fall. Other shots will follow as I get opportunities to get out and put the 350D to work. I'm hoping the polarizers I have on order arrive soon - they should further enhance the colors.

Sometimes the sky looks amazing at night. Storm clouds were leaving the area on the night of the full moon producing this scene.

Not an HDR.

Day two of the trip was spent in Provincetown which is located at the very end of the Cape. Dinner was at Mews and although on the pricier side the meal was excellent. I highly recommend the Shaking Beef.

I didn't find much of interest to photograph in Provincetown - except for this one store which had an amazing Halloween display. The owner didn't like me trying to take a picture of it however... I guess he thought I would replicate it.

This photo was taken in the garden behind an Asian inspired store. Everything it was very well done. Unfortunately, I can't seem to remember the name, but I will ask my friends.

*I didn't have my tripod with me so unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I don't make an appearance.

Irene's parents came to visit for Labor Day weekend. We went for a walk at Great Brook Farm. These waterlilies were growing in one of the ponds.

Lowell has been running a summer music series for the past few years. We made it to a show last year and last night was the first one we are going to in 2008. This is Brandi Carlile and she put on a awesome show last night. After doing her full set with the band she came back to sing for another 25 minutes of whatever came to mind. Hopefully I can find a recording of the show last night...

See more photos from the show here.

Maybe this is a return to daily photos?

I walk past these pipes in the garage everyday and I have always thought they would make an interesting photo. Today I decided it was sufficiently late that I could be playing with my tripod in the middle of the apartment garage... though it may have given a worse impression if someone had come in while I was there considering it is after 11 at night.
