Oliver Chong > 2008.08.28 - Day ? : A preview of October in New England... Even the flowers know autumn is coming. I have no idea what plant this is, but it was growing in bed at the apartment complex entrance. *Mystery Solved! - Thanks CSPics, it does indeed seem to be some variety of Lantana. Shot on a light gray table and composed as a 3 shot HDR.
Oliver Chong > 2008.08.26 - Day ? : Power. In case you missed the news, the Canon 50D was announced today. My Rebel XT is getting a little long in the tooth. I would love to upgrade to the 5D replacement (it will likely be announced in late September), but it would be an expensive endeavor so the 50D is probably where I will be headed. Nikonians: expect the D90 to be announced tomorrow. It supposedly records HD video.
Oliver Chong > 2008.08.24 - Day ? : Another bonsai photo. Our Suriname Cherry (eugenia myrtifolia) is flowering... and by flowering i mean it has two flowers. I was surprised it flowered at all this year after loosing about half its foliage and roots in heavy pruning. Apparently these cherries flower twice a year and have fruit which are edible. The ants feel the flowers are as well. I used HDR and Lab color adjustment to add similar depth like in the coffee cup picture.
Oliver Chong > 2008.07.06 - Day 85 : If you look back on June 19th I took a photo of some flowers I got for Irene. Well when cleaning today I found two petals from that had fallen off the orange flower. As an experiment I tried focus stacking a few exposures. I continuously find that the Sigma 70-300mm has it's limits. It's sharpness falls off quickly from the center and the focus ring is really too soft for being very exact. After a few tries, I am reasonably happy with this final image. Taken with natural light from the window on a white poster board. Back fill 1, back fill 2, and back fill 3.
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.19 - Day 68 : Irene started a new job on Monday so i got her some flowers. They provided for another nice organic shot. Jeremy always says I should use the story telling apertures more so here's another. I normally won't go above f/11 due to diffraction, but I tried a range of them. I couldn't discern any quality loss in the shot so I went with f/22. Another back fill. A bit of an artistic photo... of art.
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.16 - Day 65 : Other things have had my attention recently. This is a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) on the back of a hard drive. Unfortunately, the Celtics couldn't close out the series tonight so it's time to head home. Go Green!
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.04 - Day 53 : Video games make for great amusement and are certainly not just for children. They also don't corrupt the young any more than the things your parents thought corrupted you at a similar age. More than likely we are all destined to make the corruption statement at some point.
