(In general I think Ken Rockwell is a bit crazy, but he was definitely correct in stating that NatGeo always has excellent photos.) Thinking back to when I was younger I remember my parents having old issues in a closet and once or twice digging them out to look at the maps and pictures. Anyway, for Valentine's Day Irene gave me Through the Lens: National Geographic's Greatest Photographs. (ISBN: 978-0792261643) It contains a collection of over 250 stunning photos. Thank you Irene.
Oliver Chong > 2009.1.28 - Day ? : Experimenting simulating a lens I would love to own. The TS-E. With a bit of work, Photoshop can produce a very similar effect. Overall, I am very happy with the result.
Oliver Chong > 2008.07.12 - Day 91 : Irene and I took an introductory course on Bonsai this afternoon at Bonsai West. The course is titled, "Yours, Mine, and Ours" and is intended to be taken as a pair. You each work with your own tree first and then sculpt one together. The course was great. We both had a fun time and really learned quite a lot. If you are ever in the Littleton, MA area I strongly recommend stopping by the Bonsai West nursery. This is a picture of the tree we created together. It is a cherry tree that is roughly 8" tall. I obviously went with an artistic look, but pictures of the three trees can be found here.
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.07 - Day 56 : We flew in to Columbus this morning and sat around at Elliot's apartment waiting for our parents to arrive. In the evening we went to Short North (an area of Columbus) for the gallery hop. Unfortuneately we were so tired we didn't make it to many of the galleries and the entire area was packed with people. This picture was taken inside of one of the galleries. I've cropped it pretty heavily and applied the Orton effect to it. Care to guess what it is?

Created in Photoshop from a single exposure, but I'm sure you could get the same effect by directly replicating the original concept with two exposures. "The original technique invented by Michael Orton was to overlay two or more images of an identical scene with very different exposures on slide film.[2] One image is sharply focused and the others are very out of focus. Orton has also experimented with similar techniques, substituting one of the images in the composition for one of a different subject, such as a texture layer, or combining a multi-colored image and a monotone one." -wikipedia
