Oliver Chong > 2008.08.26 - Day ? : Power. In case you missed the news, the Canon 50D was announced today. My Rebel XT is getting a little long in the tooth. I would love to upgrade to the 5D replacement (it will likely be announced in late September), but it would be an expensive endeavor so the 50D is probably where I will be headed. Nikonians: expect the D90 to be announced tomorrow. It supposedly records HD video.
Oliver Chong > 2008.08.14 - Day ? : Yesterday I set out at dusk to visit a field next to my apartment complex to take a photo of some wildflowers that had bloomed earlier this week. I set down my camera, begin to open my tripod, and out come the mosquitoes. As quickly as I could I grabbed everything, closed the tripod, and ran for it. Sadly I was hit 9 times during my escape. Cut to today... As I drove in to the apartment I noticed I might be able to get the shot I wanted from a different location and without requiring stepping in to a field. In the end it seems Massachusetts is simply overrun with mosquitoes. We don't spray here so with the way the weather has been they are out of control. I had to settle with just a few quick shots before I had to retreat once again (with another three bites). Here's the best I could do with what I shot, processed with the Orton effect. I saw there have been cases of West Nile in MA. I sure hope I don't get infected with that.
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.07 - Day 56 : We flew in to Columbus this morning and sat around at Elliot's apartment waiting for our parents to arrive. In the evening we went to Short North (an area of Columbus) for the gallery hop. Unfortuneately we were so tired we didn't make it to many of the galleries and the entire area was packed with people. This picture was taken inside of one of the galleries. I've cropped it pretty heavily and applied the Orton effect to it. Care to guess what it is?

Oliver Chong > 2008.05.25 - Day 43 : This is my take on the Orton technique. Created in Photoshop from a single exposure, but I'm sure you could get the same effect by directly replicating the original concept with two exposures. "The original technique invented by Michael Orton was to overlay two or more images of an identical scene with very different exposures on slide film.[2] One image is sharply focused and the others are very out of focus. Orton has also experimented with similar techniques, substituting one of the images in the composition for one of a different subject, such as a texture layer, or combining a multi-colored image and a monotone one." -wikipedia
