Oliver Chong > 2008.04.17 - Day 5 :

This is an attempt at lighting from below. I have the hand soap sitting on top of a piece of glass with the flash firing upward. I still haven't quite worked out the technique. My setup isn't ideal either because the tube i place the glass on doesn't have any access at the bottom which makes it incredibly tedious when you set the flash power wrong and have to take everything apart to get it out and adjust it... WIP.

Oliver Chong > 2009.4.23

The first fly this year that I have seen make its way inside. I have no idea where it came in from, though we did have the front door of the apartment open for a while.

This is somewhere between 1:1 and 1.5:1 since I cropped a bit. I could do the math, but I will guess 1.25:1. I have a set of Kenko extension tubes on the way which should get me near 2:1.
Oliver Chong > 2009.1.16 - Day ? :

Today was Saurabh's birthday so his wife Purvi organized everyone together for dinner at Lowell Beer Works and then to their place for drinks and games.

The game we are playing is Apples to Apples. Here Saurabh is attempting to convince Phillipe that his Red Apple is most like the Green Apple that was dealt. The game is a lot of fun and can get quite lively as people argue for their card.
Oliver Chong > 2008.10.14 - Day ? :

The day before this shot was taken I was in awe of the trees around the apartment in the morning light. It looked as though it was pretty much the perfect time for the shot so I decided I would bring the camera down the next day (today) and take a few quick shots before heading to work. Well it turned out that there was just enough cloud cover to prevent the golden light from illuminating the leaves.

So, I figured as an alternate I could take a picture of the scenery along the drive to work. It turns out my GPS non-stick weighted holder also keeps my camera in place decently well. A guess at the exposure based on what I was metering at a stop light and a few exposures using the remote trigger produced this shot. I cropped off the unnecessary sky and part of the dashboard still in view. You can easily tell which direction I drive to get to work.

*Yes it was somewhat unsafe to attempt this, but since I was using the remote trigger I figured the largest risk was that the camera would fall. I'm happy it didn't.
Oliver Chong > 2008.09.12 - Day ? :

Day two of the trip was spent in Provincetown which is located at the very end of the Cape. Dinner was at Mews and although on the pricier side the meal was excellent. I highly recommend the Shaking Beef.

I didn't find much of interest to photograph in Provincetown - except for this one store which had an amazing Halloween display. The owner didn't like me trying to take a picture of it however... I guess he thought I would replicate it.

This photo was taken in the garden behind an Asian inspired store. Everything it was very well done. Unfortunately, I can't seem to remember the name, but I will ask my friends.

*I didn't have my tripod with me so unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I don't make an appearance.
Oliver Chong > 2008.08.14 - Day ? :

Yesterday I set out at dusk to visit a field next to my apartment complex to take a photo of some wildflowers that had bloomed earlier this week. I set down my camera, begin to open my tripod, and out come the mosquitoes. As quickly as I could I grabbed everything, closed the tripod, and ran for it. Sadly I was hit 9 times during my escape.

Cut to today... As I drove in to the apartment I noticed I might be able to get the shot I wanted from a different location and without requiring stepping in to a field. In the end it seems Massachusetts is simply overrun with mosquitoes. We don't spray here so with the way the weather has been they are out of control. I had to settle with just a few quick shots before I had to retreat once again (with another three bites).

Here's the best I could do with what I shot, processed with the Orton effect.

I saw there have been cases of West Nile in MA. I sure hope I don't get infected with that.
