Oliver Chong > 2008.05.13 - Day 31 : Irene makes another appearance here. I wanted to see what I could get with a long exposure and lighting from only the computer monitor. In post processing i ended up with something that I thought was kind of interesting. To me it has a somewhat vintage look and texture.
Oliver Chong > 2008.10.13 - Day ? : I tried to setup a shot here using three different colored leaves, but I couldn't get a composition I loved and since I was short on time I just used the existing florescent lighting. Well, I wasn't able to get the colors back the way I knew they were so I settled on black and white. Can you guess the colors of the leaves?
Oliver Chong > 2008.09.28 - Day ? : It rained almost nonstop from Friday morning through to Sunday night. I've been watching a patch of trees along my path to work change colors, but with the all the rain it delayed my plans. Luckily Sunday afternoon offered a one hour respite from the rain so I rushed down the road to take a few shots. This isn't my favorite shot of the day, but it does show an isolated glimpse of the beauty that New England offers in the fall. Other shots will follow as I get opportunities to get out and put the 350D to work. I'm hoping the polarizers I have on order arrive soon - they should further enhance the colors.
Oliver Chong > 2008.09.03 - Day ? : This is the tub in our guest bathroom. Tonight was an experiment in post processing. I'm very happy with the end result - a somewhat surreal look while pulling out the detail that is nearly invisible in the original exposure (water droplets, richer shadows, and aging). The final image has two curves applied to the image. The first curve only applied to the tub itself while the second is only for the metal. Best viewed at XL size as a lot of the detail is lost in the smaller versions.
Oliver Chong > 2008.08.24 - Day ? : Another bonsai photo. Our Suriname Cherry (eugenia myrtifolia) is flowering... and by flowering i mean it has two flowers. I was surprised it flowered at all this year after loosing about half its foliage and roots in heavy pruning. Apparently these cherries flower twice a year and have fruit which are edible. The ants feel the flowers are as well. I used HDR and Lab color adjustment to add similar depth like in the coffee cup picture.
Oliver Chong > 2008.05.22 - Day 40 : Irene was ready for a new computer so we bought the parts the other day to model the one I built in late February. It is amazing how quickly the prices drop. It was ~$150 less three months later. You can see three of the most important parts of a good computer: the processor, the ram and the video card. The "silentpipe" is covering the Northbridge. If you're curious the components are: Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, 4GB DDR2-800, Nvidia 8800GT.
Oliver Chong > 2008.05.29 - Day 47 : The little lonely violin. Not played for months it sits in its case, even there gathering dust. So we just got home from seeing Esperanza Spalding at the Regattabar in Cambridge. She was amazing. Esperanza graduated from Berkley a year sooner than usual and at 20 became the youngest instructor ever at the school. This was her cd release party and if you like Jazz, I recommend you give her a listen on iTunes or at her website http://www.esperanzaspalding.com/ Ponta de Areia and Precious are two of my favorites. Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera, but I saw two people there with SLRs so I will remember for the next time I am at that venue.
Oliver Chong > 2009.1.18 - Day ? : It has been snowing hard here all day. Before we made our way over to the grocery store I grabbed the camera and had Irene pose in the snow. She's so cute. I had the on camera flash fire, but I think it was too small to give the catch light I was looking for. That and it was bright diffuse light outside so Irene's pupils were very contracted. I intentionally let the camera over expose and got exactly what I was looking for. I also took a few 4 seasons photos, but I haven't had time to sort through them yet. If you return here later I will link to them.
