Oliver Chong > 2008.05.10 - Day 28 :

I was back over at the house today taking many pictures. This carpet of Lily of the Valley live underneath a 300+ year old Beech tree.
Oliver Chong > 2008.07.12 - Day 91 :

Irene and I took an introductory course on Bonsai this afternoon at Bonsai West. The course is titled, "Yours, Mine, and Ours" and is intended to be taken as a pair. You each work with your own tree first and then sculpt one together. The course was great. We both had a fun time and really learned quite a lot. If you are ever in the Littleton, MA area I strongly recommend stopping by the Bonsai West nursery.

This is a picture of the tree we created together. It is a cherry tree that is roughly 8" tall. I obviously went with an artistic look, but pictures of the three trees can be found here.

Experimenting simulating a lens I would love to own. The TS-E.
With a bit of work, Photoshop can produce a very similar effect. Overall, I am very happy with the result.
Oliver Chong > 2008.10.17 - Day ? :

Unfortunately, our bonsai have fungus gnats. It's probably party my fault for watering too frequently, but after moving the plants inside I thought they were dropping leaves from being too dry. In actuality it was probably they experienced too much cold outside before moving in.

Yesterday at the grocery store I saw they had Venus Flytraps so I purchased one in hopes that it will snack on some of the gnats. A simpler solution would probably be just to buy one of those sticky fly strips, but it's not nearly as interesting of a solution. Within 10 minutes of putting the Venus Flytrap between the plants I saw it snatch a gnat. There is hope...

This is a 15 shot macro focus stack.

Irene and I went to The Butterfly Place in Westford, MA today. They have quite the collection of butterflies and moths, many of them from Asia or South America. Unfortunately, I can't identify this butterfly from the sheet we purchased. You can see many other photos from today in my butterflies gallery.

I really liked the perspective of this photo though I wish I had tried for a bit more depth of field. You don't really have time to stop and think about your settings though or the shot will just fly away. It was interesting that certain species had no issue with sitting around and taking their time feeding while others wouldn't even stop flapping.

I have been thinking about taking this shot every time I have a latte. This is actually a 5 exposure HDR which really helps draw the texture out of the bottom of the cup and the table it is sitting on.

The drink was good...
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.05 - Day 54 :

I quite like this picture.
Oliver Chong > 2008.04.23 - Day 11 :

I liked this shot because of the connection between the reflection along with the webcam and what it could see. Want to name the things you can see in the reflection?
Oliver Chong > 2008.06.26 - Day 75 :

I took a few days off photographing for life and because I wasn't feeling very creative. I got this little Japanese toy at a store in Northampton, MA while I was still in college. The green guy's head moves side to side - powered by solar cells.

For this shot I used overhead flash lighting.
