Oliver Chong > 2009.2.16 - Day ? :

Around Christmas I started a subscription to National Geographic. (In general I think Ken Rockwell is a bit crazy, but he was definitely correct in stating that NatGeo always has excellent photos.) Thinking back to when I was younger I remember my parents having old issues in a closet and once or twice digging them out to look at the maps and pictures.

Anyway, for Valentine's Day Irene gave me Through the Lens: National Geographic's Greatest Photographs. (ISBN: 978-0792261643) It contains a collection of over 250 stunning photos.

Thank you Irene.

We are be moving in just over a week to a new apartment so we have been trying to get everything packed early.

Power.

In case you missed the news, the Canon 50D was announced today. My Rebel XT is getting a little long in the tooth. I would love to upgrade to the 5D replacement (it will likely be announced in late September), but it would be an expensive endeavor so the 50D is probably where I will be headed.

Nikonians: expect the D90 to be announced tomorrow. It supposedly records HD video.
Oliver Chong > 2008.05.24 - Day 42 :

The sun setting over the Merrimack river in Lowell, MA. Those are mill stacks that rise in to the sky.
Oliver Chong > 2008.05.21 - Day 39 :

I had always heard that Settlers of Catan was an excellent board game so this past weekend I purchased a copy. Irene and I played our first game yesterday and we both had a lot of fun playing it. I would definitely recommend Catan if you are looking for a board game.
Oliver Chong > 2008.04.29 - Day 17 :

Several people asked about my lightbox early on and yesterday I got a few requests for a picture from some people outside of Smugmug so I decided it was time to post a shot. It is essentially identical to the design shown on DIYPhotography and Strobist. I use cromolux design paper as my backdrop, but anything that isn't too flimsy should work fine.

Of course normally the flash is placed closer to the box (I usually place it to the side), but I wanted this to have some artistic merit.
Oliver Chong > 2008.04.18 - Day 6 :

A wonderful shade of stagnant water green. This sudden warm up in MA has allowed the pond scum to grow. You can see how it is thickest around the tree and thins as it heads towards where I was standing. I really like how the reflection looks.
Oliver Chong > 2008.05.30 - Day 48 :

A forest of I don't know what...

Hungry Hungry Hippo!

We caught this little guy snacking on some Lucky Charms. Irene recently finished this amigurumi hippo. Amigurumi are Japanese styled crochet stuffed animals. Irene has completed a few birds and has a lion in the works. That's what the yellow yarn photographed last month was for.
